I've started to look at three of the most up and coming languages: Julia, Go, and Rust.

Derek Banas has videos that provide a brief introduction to each one.

What to start learning?

If I were beginning in the IT field today, I would probably move in the direction of becoming a data scientist.  Many of my current students have expressed interest in also moving in this direction, so it behooves me to begin to map out a course of study to improve my credibility as a nascent data scientist.  How to get there?  Well, one likely approach is to map out a course of study at Khan Academy.

New Year Resolution (not!)

Taking some time between classes to do a skills assessment, and to decide which technologies to investigate anew (and to continue to investigate). Trying to approach this task systematically, although I'm not sure what exact system to apply at this point!

This is certainly a daunting undertaking, and my initial approach is to "just do it", hoping that out of my madness an effective method will emerge!

How time flies

Well, here I am back blogging after a hiatus of 8 years.  Maybe this time I'll actually have something interesting to say.

St. Louis Community College has just undergone a painful "reduction in force" (RIF), and miraculously I was one of the "survivors".  So much for my dream of many months off and the opportunity to move on to other things.
